Visa

If you are traveling from outside of India and do not hold an Indian passport, you most likely will need a visa. You can apply for an E Visa through the link below starting 30 days prior to your departure date. A tourist visa is usually the most appropriate option.

Major airport immigration and customs may have visa services available. Please check with the airport you plan to enter India.

Vaccinations

The CDC and WHO recommend the following vaccinations for travel to India: typhoid, cholera, hepatitis A, polio, yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, chikungunya, rabies, hepatitis B, influenza, COVID-19, pneumonia, meningitis, chickenpox, shingles, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) and measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).

Please consult your own doctor and determine which vaccinations are appropriate for you.

 

Transportation

  • Modes of transport include app-based taxis, auto-rickshaws, and metro systems (especially in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru).
  • Pre-booked taxis or app-based services like Uber and Ola are commonly used for airport transfers and local travel. 
  • Larger airports usually have designated pick-up zones and signage for app-based cabs. Many hotels also offer reliable airport transfer options.

 

General Safety Information

  • Preferably drink only bottled water. Packaged drinking water is standard in hotels and restaurants.
  • India uses 230V electricity. Plug types C, D, and M are standard.
  • The official currency is the Indian Rupee (INR).
  • ATMs are widely available in urban locations.
  • Digital payment systems are frequently used. Cash transactions remain common in some shops and smaller outlets.
  • October in many parts of India marks the transition from the monsoon to post-monsoon season. Weather is generally warm during the day, with cooler evenings in some regions. Occasional rain may still occur in certain areas.
  • Indoor spaces such as hotels and conference venues are typically air-conditioned.
